Our Day in the Sun

Yesterday we spent lots of time outdoors. I know our family up North is enjoying their Spring weather of 50 degrees while we enjoy our Spring weather of 70 degrees. Sorry guys… It’s so fun to step outside at 8 am and smell the fresh Spring air. It’s also really fun to see everyone come outside. Kids are playing and people are walking and riding their bikes. So good.

Anyways, at around 11:30 we took Alfred on a long walk. He has been a little bit naughty lately so we are trying to help him by taking him outside to burn some energy more regularly. We stopped at a park in town and let him off the leash. He just went crazy. He loves to run – and he can run fast. He definitely has working dog in his blood.

Now, I have a video of Alfie and I feel that I need to preface it with lots of back story. In Sterling, KS there is a siren that goes off everyday at 7:00 am, noon, 1:00 pm, and 6:00 pm. Well we were in this field when the siren started to go off and Alfred always gets a little spooked and excited. The siren is very close to our house so it’s loud. Well, Alfie has started to howl back at the siren. Everyday at noon when I am home for lunch Mike and I run over to the door to watch as Alfred reacts to the siren. It’s a highlight of our days. Now, you can see the video.

Maybe that was a little less exciting than I made it sound, but we absolutely love it.

By the end of our long walk he was pooped. He spent the entire afternoon asleep on the couch which means he has not been getting into trouble – and we really appreciate that.

A Little Photoshoot

I told you about the camera lens I got for my birthday, yes? Well the day after I got it I decided to play around with it on my littlest sister. She was quite the supportive girl – and what 8 year old doesn’t love to pose for the camera? So today when I stumbled upon them in iPhoto I decided it was time to share them with the world!

FYI: I haven’t edited any of these photos – they are straight from the camera in all their glory… I recently upgraded to Adobe CS6 (thanks mom) and am still very much learning the new tricks and whistles that come with what feels like a brand new program. AKA too scared to open it until I have a significant amount of time to fall into obsession.

She is quite the blessing to our family. I will cherish little moments like these for the rest of my life.

She also has a wonderful sense of humor.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter Weekend. Eat lots of Reeses Eggs and reflect often on the reason for this beautiful holiday.

Just like any other Tuesday

When I woke up this morning I felt a little groggy. I went to work like it was any other day. I had my regular daily schedule. 2nd grade, 1st grade, lunch, 1st grade again, and 3rd grade math – I put a kindy on the bus and I came home. When I got home I called the IRS to verify something on our tax return. I wasn’t feeling great so I relaxed for a while on the couch and caught up on social media things. Turns out that this Tuesday is not just like any other Tuesday in the Social Media world – or in the Political World.

I don’t want to talk about what is happening in the world today. It is not something I have read up on or know the facts about. I don’t want to pick a side or tell you what’s right or wrong. I have my own thoughts and my own opinions but I have never been one to passionately be vocal about them.

I got off facebook and felt immediately drained. I felt hurt and confused and struck by the tension. I started to read articles on news sites and opinions of different political people. And now I’m here. Typing on this little blog of mine very confused and forced to rely on the things I know, the things I don’t know, the things I believe in, the things I am passionate about.

I am passionate about my relationship with the Lord.

I am passionate about my husband and our relationship.

I am passionate about my family and my siblings.

Today I am finding so much comfort in these three things. It’s so hard to read things on the internet and not be swayed by what the world is saying. But yet in those times it’s so easy for me to turn away from the Bible and turn towards the world. On this not so average Tuesday I have relied on the truth of scripture and have been quickly reminded of how good His truth is. I know I am quick to just agree with those around me to avoid conflict. Thankfully I have learned today that that is not best in all situations. Conflict is hard. Tension is awkward. Picking sides on emotional issues is no cake walk. But choosing Jesus and being called to a life of pursuing Him is no cake walk either and I wouldn’t trade that decision for anything.

This post doesn’t exactly have a purpose. It’s good for me to write these things down. Good for me to remember the moments when the Lord opens my eyes to some of the hurts in our world.

On to a lighter topic…

I also really appreciate this little guy – he’s been by my side since I got home. He’s just what I need on a groggy Tuesday – and during a Jayhawk win.

I also really appreciated my Monday in Wichita with my family. Time with a sweet girl scout and a teen who is more than ready to be a graduate.
