March Madness

Mar 24, 2013 /

We have our brackets posted.

We are checking the tournament status after every game.

We have watched and read and listened to all sorts of opinions and stats.

We love March Madness.

It’s such a fun time of the year. It also is conveniently scheduled to help push the winter blues away. It’s technically Spring, but it snowed 4 inches last night, and I’m gonna say it’s ok because you can watch basketball ALL. DAY. LONG.

We’re basketball people.

Also, Rock Chalk and Go Shox.

Anyways – I’ve mentioned here before that Alfred had started to dig in the yard. Well turns out he only likes to dig when the ground is nasty and muddy and covered with a few inches of snow. These next few things happened quickly after finding him this way…

Happy March Madness, friends.
We are hoping for warmer weather and lots of bicycle rides in the near future.
Bye for now,

Spring Break 2013

This could be our last Spring Break. Mike will graduate next December and then no more Spring Break and Woohoo! Real World. So in order to celebrate our potential last Spring break we decided to visit our dear friends in Fort Collins, CO.

We had quite the adventure on our way to Colorado. Alfred ate some of Mike’s parents’ dog food the morning before we left which caused him to get very car sick. 3 times car sick. He had to sleep on layers of paper towels the entire second half of the trip. Poor little guy…

He felt much better after a good nights rest and some quality time with Zack and Missy.

It was so great getting time with these friends. We ate a lot of great food – pizza dominated this category. We stayed up way too late considering they were not on Spring Break and we fell in love with Fort Collins. We made homemade pizza one night and after we had eaten it all it started to snow big and beautiful snowflakes.

The next day we visited Horsetooth Reservoir before dinner. Gorgeous.

We ended our trip with Pizza at Beau Jo’s and conversations about the future – hopes, dreams, goals. These people are the type of friends that everyone should have. They sharpen and challenge and encourage in ways you cannot imagine.
IMG_4976Needless to say, the trip was a success. We love you, Yarbroughs! Hope to see you again very soon!

That’s all for now,

Recovering My Dining Room Chairs

Recovering My Dining Room Chairs

Mar 8, 2013 /

Mike and I inherited a great dining table set from my parents when we got married. It was the table they bought when they first got married. It is still in great condition, but not really our style. Sorry Momma!

How to Recover a Dining Room Chair

Thus begins the process of recovering them. We bought our fabric at Hobby Lobby (the closest craft store to our location) and it was on SALE. I decided to go the “trendy” route because I fell in love with this green chevron and couldn’t find anything that stuck out to me like this did. No worries though, it’s super easy to recover a chair so if it goes out of style in the next five years? I’ll change it again for about $8.

How to recover a chairNext, I unscrewed the seat from the chair…
Recovering Chairs Recovering ChairsI then pulled out the 58,000 staples that my mom secured the old fabric with… I used a very small flathead screwdriver and it worked well enough. It took about 20 minutes to get them all out so this was the most time consuming part. Note: you could skip this step if you are covering a light fabric with a darker one and just attach the new right on top of the old.

I measured the seat and cut out my fabric. I also ironed my fabric so it would lay super flat. Then came my new staple gun! I got this gun from Amazon and I love it! It fits great in my small hands and isn’t hard to push.

So I staple. Staple. Staple. Fold over. Staple. Staple. Staple. Reattach to the chair and…

Recovering Chairs Recovering ChairsWOOHOO! I love my new chair!  Now I need to repeat this 5 more times and I’ll be done! I’m thankful for half days of school and the motivation to finally get this project started. I’m a little nervous that I don’t have enough fabric but I’ll deal with that when the time comes.

That’s all for now. I think we might be headed to Colorado for Spring Break!
