It’s My Birthday & Moving Day!

It’s My Birthday & Moving Day!

Dec 18, 2013 /

Well since today is moving day, I don’t have much to say besides we’re running around with our heads cut off with so much excitement and sadness all at once. It’s tough to see our empty Sterling house but so much fun seeing our Wichita home full of all our things. Every time we open a box it’s like a little early Christmas present.

But really I’m here to tell you about the best birthday present to date.

In November, Mike ordered a gift for me online and asked me to keep my eyes away from his amazon account. I promised I wouldn’t look because I wanted to be surprised just as much as he wanted to surprise me.

He tracked it pretty closely and told me the day it was supposed to arrive to not open any of the packages. Again, I agreed to keep my hands to myself. Then he left to play ultimate frisbee and I laid in bed for an hour or so snuggling with our pup.

Then, Alfred started freaking out. He usually does this when someone is at the door so I got up to check it out. I assumed it was the package and was expecting to just bring it in and leave it for Mike to hide. But then no one was on the porch but someone was walking around our house – no wonder Alf was freaking out. It was strange. So then when he came back to the front I realized it was the UPS man (thank goodness) so I opened the door to talk to him.

He was surprised to see me – I guess he knocked and I didn’t hear him. He then told me that there was a package at our back door. He didn’t want to leave it on the porch because it’s a sewing machine…

He so kindly ruined my surprise!

I felt so bad – Mike tried so hard to keep it secret and then the gift arrived in it’s original packaging. There was no way to hide it!

So I got my gift a little bit early – which was perfect because I was planning on sewing a few gifts for Christmas and was going to just borrow my moms but now I have my own!

To say I’m excited would be an understatement. I’m seeing curtains and pillows and fabric gifts in my future.

I might do a review on this particular machine later. So far? I absolutely love everything about it. It has 100 different stitches and it’s so smart!

I’ll keep you posted on moving things later this week once the internet is set up. Happy ONE WEEK before Christmas!
And, Happy Birthday to me!
Love, KJ

Our First Room Is Empty

Dec 16, 2013 /

This last week was spent doing a lot of packing and cleaning – I also spent a lot of time just sitting on the couch too. It’s surprisingly difficult to get motivated a week before a big move. Maybe it’s just me?

Anyways, our second bedroom is officially empty. It’s so strange and sad seeing the empty room. I’m not looking forward to seeing the empty house this week. So many wonderful memories from our first year of marriage happened here and it’s going to be hard to walk away from that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited to move into our new house and make new memories there, but it’s still hard to leave this place.

So here are our progress pics. The rest of the house right now is literally a disaster, so those picture will come later. Oh, and I’m finally showing you the mess that was our 2nd bedroom… Please be gracious with me – it was bad.

It was actually fun getting this room emptied. It was where Mike and I started when we first began packing and we threw so much stuff away. It felt so good to purge. Once all the stuff was out I started with vacuuming the rug in there. It was an old shag rug that had so much dirt in it. I think I spent twenty minutes going over it again and again with the vacuum in hopes that the dirt would find its way out.

In the office I had to vacuum the shelves and windows. I also vacuumed the walls because each of those wood slats had a thin layer of dust at the top. The room looked so much better after just simply running a vacuum over everything. I then swept and mopped the floors. It really made a huge difference.

After I swept and mopped I got a bowl of hot water and a rag and wiped down all the baseboards. The vacuum definitely made it look better, but it did not grab all the dust. After a good wipe down I felt so accomplished. It feels so good to check an entire room off the list.

Obviously we have a crazy week ahead, with moving, my birthday, and traveling for Christmas. We have a lot on our plate, but I plan to show the listing photos of the new house on Friday, so stick with us. We’ve got a lot of fun stuff planned.

I have my last day of work tomorrow. That’s gonna be an emotional day for me.

Happy Monday! Guys, 9 days until Christmas! Is this real life? Where did 2013 go?

Well friends, it’s been four weeks since I decided to grow out my pixie. I am still sticking to my decision and am pretty excited about it. I’ve actually gotten a lot of compliments on the longer look (hopefully they’ll keep complimenting when it gets awkward long).

Anyways, here are my picture updates.

December 2013This pic is clearly embarrassing for me… But I wanted you to see how long the bangs were and how my ears are almost covered!

December 20132And here is my typical look – Bangs to the side and my hair tucked behind the ears.

Growing it out so far hasn’t been that bad. Mike trimmed the back 4 weeks ago and it’s still doing pretty good on length. I might have him trim it again in about 2 weeks.I’ve been relying a lot on hairspray instead of paste. When it was shorter I could just run some styling paste through it and call it good, but now that it’s getting this long hairspray has working a a lot better on keeping it in place.

I love curling my hair too. I use my straightener and then hairspray and that’s it! I’m feeling really stress free about it and that’s the way I like it.

This is where we’ve been…
