House Updates {Part One}

Jan 16, 2014 /

Okay, I know I said I’d be back Wednesday with final photos of the third bedroom, but I got lazy and as I sit here on Thursday evening the closet doors are still drying. I’ll get to it though… I promise.

So anyways, wanna know what we’ve been up to besides painting trim? It’s not much, but I will tell you the little things because I know you wanna know… deep down.

The Office ShelvesThe Office Ikea Racks

So we started with shelves. Once we got the desk done I was ready for some more organization in the office. Shelves were my solution and I love them! I then painted two Ikea Spice Racks white and added those below for my paints and mason jars. I had one of those “I love organization and I love everything organized” days and it was awesome.

Also, the Ikea spice racks? Worth it.

The Master Bedroom

Alright we didn’t really do a lot in here. We bought some shoe shelves from Target and I made the bed (for the first time since we moved in). I also hung my scarf organizer yesterday so my scarves are officially off the floor!

Family-Bathroom

I told you I loved the spice racks. I painted two more of them gray and they were up rather quickly in the bathroom. We don’t have any drawers in the bathroom, just cabinets, so we’re doing our best to get creative with our space. In the family room I just hung a shelf and moved a bookshelf to sit underneath it. It’s not much, but it makes this just moved into house feel more like a home.

So there you have it! That’s what we’ve been working on in this house – well that and painting trim and making big plans for our basement family room.

Happy Thursday!

Do you have any fun updates going on at your house?!

Painting Trim Supplies

I don’t think you can necessarily tell from this photo… But we have started a project in the new house! A very large and long project…

Painting Trim White Phase 1

I’ll be honest, I was getting a little bit stir crazy and needed something to do besides empty boxes and feel confused on where to put things and make things messier than they were when I started. I needed a project that I could see the progress of and then live with the change.

When we first walked through this house I saw a lot of brown. I love brown, like a deep dark walnut brown, but the brown in our house was not dark walnut. So, I mentioned to Mike that I’d love to have white trim and he kinda gave me wide eyes… “You want to paint all the trim in this house white?!?” were his first thoughts. Ok, it’s a lot. Ok, it’s daunting. Ok, it’s not just the trim but the doors and the cabinets and literally everything made out of wood in this whole house. But yes, I wanted to paint the trim in our brand new home white.

On Thursday morning I got the go ahead from the Mr.

On Thursday afternoon I took some paint swatches from Home Depot and held them against our trim.

On Thursday evening I caulked around all the baseboards in the 3rd bedroom. There was a very slim little gap between the wall and the boards. If I was going to paint all the trim in this house white I was going to do it right.

After the caulking I taped the walls real good and lightly sanded and wiped down all my surfaces.

On Thursday night I put my first coat of primer on the brown and I felt extremely exhausted (and also extremely accomplished)

Ever since Thursday night I’ve been going up and down our stairs putting on new coats of paint. I’ve also starting tackling the doors for the closet and the hallway and I’ve started painting inside the closet.

At this point we are absolutely in love with the final product and I’m not sick of painting yet. There was a moment on Saturday that I sat down for too long and wasn’t sure if I was going to get back up (ever), but I’m not sure if that was paint related or really sore from yoga class related. Either way we’re jazzed about the new state of our guest bedroom and cannot wait to tackle our family room downstairs.

So, now you know what I’ve been up to. I’ll have final photos up on Wednesday of the room and some other things we’ve been up to in this new house, so stay tuned!

Happy Monday!

The Holidays {Recap}

The Holidays {Recap}

Jan 6, 2014 /

Hey friends! I’m back after a week off from this little blog of mine and feeling very refreshed but excited for this new year.

We are officially moved into our home – what?! We’ve been here a total of 9 days (not counting the days we were out of town) and we love it. There is so much to do, like finishing that unpacking thing and the millions of loads of laundry that will forever haunt me. Our bedroom floor looks like our closet exploded and there are still boxes sporadically placed around the house along the walls, but I feel a little bit like I’m living in a dream.

We’ve gotten a few things done on the house. We hung some shelves? I think that’s about it. Oh, and we fixed a toilet. Woohoo!

Now, for the holidays? We had Christmas in Minnesota, Christmas in Kansas, and then a vacation to Arizona.

Minnesota was filled with dogs and lots and lots of family time. We stayed with our cousins Dan & Michelle and their puppy (giant St. Bernard) Randi. They were such great hosts and we made some wonderful memories with them. We also got to spend lots of time with our cousins Christy & Curt and their newest addition.

After Minnesota we headed back to Kansas for Christmas with my family. Christmas morning is filled with lots of traditions that I love. We then had a few days at home which was great. We did some unpacking and some packing because we were quickly off to Arizona. IMG_1390IMG_1395IMG_1406IMG_1409IMG_1386IMG_3555

In Zona we did some shopping, lots of hiking, lots of playing cards, and lots of relaxing. Maddie bought an Eno hammock so we had a blast with that. It was so great to relax. I started reading the Hunger Games books. They are fantastic. I’m that girl with her nose in her book now. IMG_3574 IMG_3576 IMG_7849 IMG_3578 IMG_7876 IMG_3582 IMG_3587 IMG_3599 IMG_3600 IMG_3604 IMG_3609 IMG_7922 IMG_3641 IMG_3645 IMG_3598

Was that enough for you? Phew! I feel like it was a mouthful, but I suppose it was mostly photos. I hope your holidays were just as wonderful and that you’re ready for this new year.

Mike started his new job last Thursday and I’ve been addressing graduation announcements in between all the other things I’ve got on my list. Happy Monday & Happy 2014!!
