Jaderston Baby: 24-25 Weeks!

Jan 6, 2016 /

…

IMG_0286IMG_0339

How far along: 24 and 25 weeks! I am doing a two week update this time because with the holidays I took some time off the blog.

How big is baby: About the size of Cauliflower… 13.6 inches long and weighs 1.5 lbs – 2.5 lbs.

Gender: It’s a BOY! We love referring to him as a he. It’s exciting every single time.

Movement: Lots and lots of movement. It is so fun to feel him move and I love it even more when Mike gets to feel it too.

Sleep: Sleeping great! I am most comfortable when I’m sleeping on my side (my normal sleeping position) but I wake up on my back every once in awhile too. It is still very painful to roll over in bed and get out of bed but I always fall right back asleep and rarely have to get up to use the bathroom.

Symptoms: Pelvic pain, lower back pain, congestion, and out of breath when I’m doing nothing. Pregnancy does weird things to your body…

Cravings/Aversions: Still avoiding chicken but almost everything else sounds good. I made a delicious salmon salad last night and I think it will go into my regular meal rotation. I’m trying hard to not eat as much fast food which means I need to cook for myself and be more prepared with food when I go to work. I am definitely out of a good routine.

Maternity clothes: Yes and no. I am mixing and matching.

Workouts: Pelvic pain makes moving around/walking around/being on my feet nearly impossible. So no workouts. Taking it easy at all times. BUT I saw the physical therapist yesterday and she adjusted my back and gave me a pregnancy support belt that should help my lower back. She was hopeful that walking will be more manageable soon. Working out probably won’t be in the cards for me throughout this pregnancy but I am happy to find some pain management to try. I have lots of exercises and stretches in my future and even more resting and relaxing.

Nursery: Still no progress… my mom did give me a Land of Nod catalog when we were in Arizona last week and challenged me to start dreaming… So dreaming I will do!

Mike: He is excitedly/nervously starting his first seminary course this week. I am so proud of him and all the things he balances in life. He loves feeling the baby move and he always reacts to the bump now when I walk into the room and says hello to the boy. He takes such good care of me and is always asking if I need anything or need help around the house. Lots of house chores have gone on the back burner with my pain and he has been more than willing to pick up the slack even with all the things on his plate.

Missing anything: Being active but I am hopeful that the exercises and belt from the physical therapist will make simple trips to the store more manageable.

Best part of the week: Our trip to Arizona was so refreshing and ringing in the New Year with Mike is always special. It was crazy to wake up on January 1st, 2016 and realize that this year we will become parents.

Looking forward to most: More physical therapy! Anything to get me moving comfortably again.

Worries/Concerns: None! We are so grateful for a healthy baby. All the pain and frustration will be so worth it.

Look Back at 2015

Jan 1, 2016 /

…

Well hello there, 2016. I can’t believe you’re here.

2016 is going to be a year of change and joy. I am excited for the adventure ahead, but I don’t want to rush forward without reflecting on the year we’ve had.

January

We woke up on New Years Day in the same place that we woke up this morning – Zona.
We also finished painting all the trim white in our home!! Still can’t believe this is done.

February

We did our first savings challenge of the year in February and spent an evening at the field house.

March

We spent a week in Arizona with our best friends and we got to experience the Grand Canyon for the first time together. It was such a fun adventure.

April

Our laundry room renovation happened this month! It’s one of my favorite spaces in our house – mostly because it’s our only finished space in our house. I imagine I will have a new favorite room here in a few months.

We also did another savings challenge, I took my first official calligraphy course, started working part time at the family business, and we did our 30 day reset (and felt better than we’d ever felt before).

May

I continued to adjust to working 2 jobs, took some engagement photos for friends, and started our trip to NYC!

June

We drove all over the place. So much time in the car. I blogged about our trip to NYC, we ventured to Chicago for a dear friends wedding, and then headed to Minnesota with a group of high schoolers for Group Mission.

July

We celebrated 3 years! We also headed to camp round 1 in Kansas and camp round 2 in Wisconsin.

August

August was an exciting month. We got home from our crazy summer of travel, found out we were expecting baby boy (!!!), and became an aunt and uncle!

September

Morning sickness took over my life and I only blogged 3 times. But my older sister visited Kansas and that was definitely a highlight.

October

Morning sickness still ruled all, but we announced our pregnancy to the world and we celebrated!

November

We installed our new sink and I started blogging our weekly pregnancy updates. I also finished my nanny job and started working more at the family business.

December

Our last Christmas before baby, lots of family time, still occasional morning sickness, and lots of pelvic pain. But we tried to mark our season with Joy and we rang in the new year (asleep) but with the same attitude.

2015 was good. It was also marked with loss and growth through pain and I’m not trying to ignore those parts; it’s just more fun to blog the happy and reflect internally on the hard.

I hope your New Year feels peaceful and that this holiday is a day of relaxing.

Happy Day!

Christmas Eve

Dec 24, 2015 /

It’s hard to believe that Christmas Eve is already here.

IMG_0052

December 1st feels like just yesterday but tomorrow is already the day we’ve all been anticipating. December 25th.

IMG_0046

Mike and I have followed along with the She Reads Truth/He Reads Truth advent study this year. I have never done an advent study from start to finish (although I’ve had good intentions in the past) but this year seemed different.

This year. Our last Christmas before we become parents. Before we start this new adventure that seems terrifying and perfect all at once.

It has brought about a lot of reflection. A lot of conversations. A lot of growth.

Something we’ve talked about consistently is the Joy of this holiday. Mike put it perfectly in his parent newsletter at the church a few weeks back.

“The Christmas party got me thinking about the Christmas traditions I had growing up. As I was thinking, I couldn’t help but be struck by the difference between my family and the family that I married into. Christmastime at the Jaderston household has a different feel than Kelsey’s household.

Growing up, my parents only really had one tradition – reading the Christmas story on Christmas Eve. Sure, we had a tree (most years), maybe a couple of decorations, some delicious food on Christmas, but that was about it. It was relaxed and simple.

For my wife’s side of the family, however, Christmastime is a sight to behold. My father-in-law may just be Clark Griswold. From the beautiful decorations, to the three Christmas trees in the house, to the vast array of traditions (including sugar cookies, old home videos, Elf on the Shelf, leaving food for Santa, Advent candles, going to watch Christmas light shows, “Ornament of the Night,” and waking up early on Christmas day) it is an eye opening, wonderful, experience.

Though the differences between the two houses may be stark, I have discovered that there is a common thread that runs between them. In the Christmas season, both homes are marked by a distinct characteristic – joy.

We can remember that in proclaiming the news to the shepherds, the angel said in Luke 2:10, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” This good news, of course, is that God has sent his son Jesus to the world. And through his death and resurrection, we can experience forgiveness from our sin and acceptance into God’s family. Although the joys of Christmas are many, this news should be our true source of joy this holiday season.

Whether your holidays are a time of simplicity or a time of tradition, my prayer is that Christmas would be marked by an unshakeable joy. That in the craziness of buying gifts, parties, and going to the grandparents, smiles would be the norm and laughter would be bountiful. I pray that your attitude would not depend on worldly things but on the hope of a Savior born in a manger.”

This doesn’t always come easily to me. I can get wrapped up in the stress of gift giving or having the perfect decorations. The worldly part of me wants to have control over the financial stuff and I want to have a perfectly decorated home. But that power struggle steals my joy. Because the reality is, it’s not me who’s in control. I’m learning. And I’m so thankful for a husband that can walk alongside me and gently correct me when I get too caught up in worldly things, like the perfect tree.

Because our crooked tree with our s’mornaments is perfect. And it brings me joy.

I hope you can find joy in the last few moments of this sweet season.

Jesus is Immanuel.
Jesus is Messiah.
Jesus is King.

There is no greater joy.

Merry Christmas!
