Celebrate!

Celebrate!

Mar 31, 2014 /

We had Celebration Sunday at our new church in Wichita yesterday. It is an exciting time for the church as they just hired and installed their new senior pastor. They’ve been searching for this man for what seems like forever, but it is such a joy that him and his family are with us now. I feel like Mike and I came into the congregation at the perfect time. We sure are blessed and excited for what God has in store in this place.

I never blogged about this, but we picked a word with our brother and sister in law at the beginning of 2014 that was going to “define” our year. The word we chose was “CELEBRATE” and boy do we love a good celebration. For awhile there, we would get together with family and call every moment a celebration.

I think we celebrated Mike’s new job and our move to Wichita 437 times – but that’s ok because we are sticking to our word and defining this year as a celebration. We’ve already celebrated birthdays and a few holidays and we look forward to celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary later on in July.

Isn’t that how we should live though? Celebrating each day as a day gifted from the Lord?

I also feel like this idea of celebration has brought the joy back to my heart. Through college there were times when my joy was missing. I had lost my joy through worry and anxiety. I had let those things overtake me and control how my days ended. Through those tough times, Mike and I visited a church in Colorado and the senior pastor said at the end of his sermon “You’re gonna get your joy back, and it’s never gonna go away again.” I felt that he was speaking directly to me (in a room of 5,000 people). I have never forgotten that word and my prayers have been filled with pleas for my joy to return when the Lord was ready.

I still struggle with fear, worry, and anxiety, but my joy is back – and it’s never gonna go away again.

After church yesterday we went out and celebrated the things God is doing in our church with fish tacos. Fish tacos is now a favorite way to celebrate.

I hope you can celebrate today and I challenge you to try and celebrate each day – even your worst days.

Happy Monday!

Five on Friday

Five on Friday

Mar 28, 2014 /

5onFridayHey! I am linked up with darci, april, christina and natasha again today for a five on friday!

1. 5k fun

I told you on Wednesday about the 5k race I ran last weekend. Well today is day 4 at the gym and I am feeling so accomplished and happy. Endorphins are the real deal people.

2. Painting trim but mostly doors

I mentioned on our last trim update that the hallway was next. Well I lied. I have already finished our bedroom trim and just finished our bedroom door. I’m glad it’s back up on its hinges – living without a bedroom door is confusing.

I’ve set up a door painting system in the basement. I prop them up on boxes full of my old textbooks. I can usually get a side done in one day but that’s only if I’m home all day. So each door takes two days minimum. I’m glad I have two paint stations set up now. One door at a time would have taken way too long.

3. Nertz and Pitch Parties

We are in a card game phase. We play pitch with our bible study and Nertz with our brother and sister in law. It has been so much fun! Do you have any fun card games that you play in groups?

My husband and his brother are hysterical when they play. We get theme songs and original songs, motivational phrases, strange noises, and lots of laughter. I love that something so simple (and CHEAP) has kept us entertained and wanting more.

4. Table building

Mike is building us a console table for our basement TV! We’ve looked around for a console table to buy, but they’re all SO expensive – especially the ones that will hold our fat TV. I’m so excited that he’s making progress on this in his downtime (which isn’t much). I appreciate him sacrificing his downtime to help turn our house into our home.

5. Spring is HERE!

We’ve had a couple warm days and then a couple cool days again, but I am looking forward to only warm days. I’m excited to get some sun on my legs and cheeks again.

Happy Friday!

5k Race and goals for a happy life

5k Race and goals for a happy life

Mar 26, 2014 /

Last weekend my mom, sister, and I ran a 5k (Run to Believe – link opens video about the race). I was a year in between the two victims of the accident in school so I’ve loved being able to participate in this race.

It was rough.

It was cold.

But we finished. And I ran the whole way – which is a small miracle.

I didn’t really train for the race. I did go the gym a few times before and ran to make sure that I could at least run two-thirds of the race without stopping. I’m not a consistent person when it comes to working out though. It’s something that I wish I was better about. I know that when I do work out I have better days. I’m happier and more relaxed. I worry a lot less about things and I feel like I get more things done on those days.

So I’m challenging myself to 4 days a week. I’ve gotten 2 days in this week – and I’ve actually enjoyed it! The Argus app helps to motivate me too. On the days I go to the gym I am almost guaranteed to get my step count. But anyways I’m challenging myself because I know it makes me a happier me which in turn reflects well on my marriage and my husband and other parts of my life.

Also, I have been listening to sermon podcasts while I workout. It makes the time go by so fast and I am challenged spiritually as my body is challenged physically (woof). I’m hoping to run more 5ks in my future with some more training so that I can improve my time.

I’m grateful to Kyle and Kylie for lighting this fire in me to better myself and I’m looking forward to next year already. 🙂

Happy Wednesday!
Love, KJ
