Kitchen Updates

Nov 5, 2015 /

…

In the last two weeks we have made some small but major changes in our kitchen. The last time we did work on our kitchen was when we painted our cabinets white – such a big project with such a big impact!

After

There are always projects and ideas running through my head when it comes to our starter home. I have such a hard time deciding which project to start on first which usually results in me just sitting on my ideas afraid to pull the trigger. Well, in September, I pulled a trigger – without talking to my husband first – and this project was for him. Oops!

And a few days later, this showed up on our front porch!

Our brand new sink!

The timing of its arrival wasn’t great since Mike had youth events and retreats on the horizon along with tennis. This project was for him and would require at least a day of dedicated time. So the box sat in our living room. And we tripped over it and kicked it and shoved it when we needed to open the front door….

THEN last week when I stayed at my parents for an evening to babysit, he surprised me by installing it! Unfortunately, it didn’t come easy and he sprouted some gray hairs because of it but a few days later we had running water and a beautiful new sink and faucet (thanks mom and dad)!

After!

It’s beautiful! And it’s deep! I love it so so much. And I’m so grateful for the gray hairs on my husbands head.

We also (finally) added knobs and pulls to the cabinets and added over cabinet lighting. These two things were impulse purchases for me. I had picked out hardware months ago but didn’t want to spend the $75. I had some Menards rebates saved up though and decided to just go for it.

Each small change has made such a big impact and I’m happy to be doing dishes with a new sparkly faucet, in a deep sink, and to now be able to open our doors and drawers without leaving fingerprints on our pretty white paint. All is good in the Jaderston household!

Happy Day!

Jaderston Baby: 16 weeks!

Nov 3, 2015 /

…

IMG_5833

How far along: 16 weeks!

How big is baby: About the size of an avocado… 4.6 inches long and 3.5 ounces! I love all the fruit comparisons in the pregnancy apps.

Gender: We will be finding out around 22 weeks!

Movement: I haven’t noticed anything yet. I have a friend who started feeling movement around week 16 so I’m getting anxious to start feeling the butterflies. We heard the heartbeat at 14 weeks though and that was such a good moment.

Sleep: I sleep like a rock with the help of Unisom and vitamin b6. During the first trimester the doctor recommended this combination to take the edge out of the nausea.. I tried to stop taking it last week and that was bad. So I am loving the sleeping pill and loving the sleep. I average about 11-12 hours a night which puts my bedtime at about 9:00…

Symptoms: Umm yes? This week specifically I have experienced a lot of painful bloating… Not fun. I am also waking up very congested, still have moments of nausea and vomiting, and exhaustion is still here but not as intense as it was a few weeks ago.

Cravings/Aversions: Yes, probably. I have random cravings and I want that food right then. If I wait too long though that specific food usually moves to the category of disgusting. Pregnancy has made me a very picky eater. Pickles, french fries with ketchup, and really cold water always sound good though.

Maternity clothes: None yet! All of the “pre-pregnancy” clothes still fit (which I realize is rare) but the first trimester sickness had all my clothes feeling very baggy. Feeling lucky that I’ve made it this far without having to spend money on clothes.

Workouts: Pah! I haven’t “worked out” since week 5 which makes me very sad. I am hoping to start walking in the mornings more often now that I am feeling a little better though.

Nursery: We plan on turning our 2nd bedroom on the main floor into a nursery which will move my office elsewhere (most likely the basement). And that’s as far as we are on the nursery…

Mike: He’s the sweetest and most caring husband and father to-be. He’s always asking “us” how “we’re” doing and is always so willing to run out and appease my weird craving of the day. He also loves when he spots the “bump”. He’s going to be the best dad.

Missing anything: No? I miss not feeling nauseous and bloated? I miss being able to stay up late with Mike I guess… Oh and I miss working out but we’ll get there.

Looking forward to most: Feeling movement! And then for Mike to feel the movement!

Worries/Concerns: We are so so thankful for a healthy pregnancy thus far, but I did have elevated thyroid levels at my first appointment and am seeing a specialist this afternoon. The doctor isn’t too concerned but feels that the levels were elevated enough that I should have further testing. We are praying that this appointment goes well and any issues or medication I need to take will be sorted out quickly.

Announcement | 15 weeks

And that’s all I think! I am excited to keep track of our pregnancy in this way. Thanks for keeping up with us!

Happy Day!

Jaderston Baby FAQs

Oct 28, 2015 /

…

Wow. We are so overwhelmed by your response to our exciting news last week. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in celebrating, loving, and praying for this little babe. They are already so so loved by so many and we feel very blessed by that.

I do plan on doing weekly/bi-weekly updates on the blog and I’m so happy to be able to (finally) talk about this little secret. But first, I need to get everyone up to date with some FAQs and some outtakes from our picture taking adventures last week.

How far along are you??

15 weeks!

When are you due?

April 18th!

How have you been feeling?

Bad.

But it’s getting better! I really don’t want to sugar coat the last few months… they’ve been rough. Working through sickness has been hard and pretty much any unnecessary part of my life was dropped so I could focus on getting through it. Throwing up has always been very traumatic to me – and unfortunately it still is. I am happy and relieved to be “on the other side” of the first trimester, but I still occasionally have sick moments that are thankfully NOTHING compared to what I experienced during weeks 8-11. Praying that it continues to improve as the weeks go on. People say the 2nd trimester is a dream… I’m still waiting for the dream but so relieved to be having some better days.

When/how did you find out?

We found out mid-August. I came home from work one day and took a test out of curiosity and sure enough – two pink lines! I called Mike almost instantly and told him over the phone. I thought very briefly that I could surprise him when he got home from work later but that thought was fleeting because I just couldn’t wait.

How did you tell your families?

We told Mike’s parents over lunch after church one Sunday and then that same Sunday we went to dinner at my parents and gave my littlest sister this picture frame. They were all overjoyed (duh)!

IMG_5681

Do you plan on finding out the gender?

Yes. Sometime between 20-22 weeks. Neither of us are huge on surprises so we’ll find out and then share the news with our families and friends once we know.

And that’s about it! Any other questions? I will answer them in the comments!

Happy Day!
