Life Lately {In Photos}

Mar 30, 2015 /

I’m back! Sorry for that brief blogging hiatus, it was tougher to get back into the routine of life than I expected.

We haven’t been up to much this week. Mike got food poisoning early on so he had to take a couple sick days and I worked quite a bit. We’ve also made HUGE strides towards our “laundry room” goal.

IMG_6238Cupcakes from the famous “Sprinkles” – The salted caramel was the best.

IMG_6242IMG_6244IMG_6246It wouldn’t be Zona without a sunset photo. This last photo was a behind the sunset photo but just as stunning.

IMG_6247Just a little friendly competition. I unfortunately had the Jayhawks going all the way…

IMG_6257IMG_6259This is how we felt during the WSU vs. KU game. I wore blue because they’re my alma mater and my mom wore gold because they’re her alma mater. Her team won. I was happy with either team winning and sad for either team losing. It was a strange paradox and the most uncomfortable I’ve ever felt during a basketball game. Don’t do this to us again NCAA… PLEASE!

IMG_6266I was caught in a hailstorm after work last Wednesday. This was a first for me. I had no idea it would be that loud/scary. But don’t worry everyone – I’m alive and well and my car doesn’t have hail damage. #becauseyoucare But also, how have I lived in Kansas my whole life and don’t ever remember being caught in a hailstorm?

The Grand Canyon

Mar 21, 2015 /

As mentioned yesterday HERE, we did some sightseeing on Wednesday. This is part two!

Mike and I had never seen the grand canyon and I love that we got to see it for the first time together. Of course I am going to endorse going to see it, it was amazing and everyone should go, but seriously… It was amazing and everyone should go. Put it on your bucket list right now.

IMG_4863IMG_4864IMG_4865IMG_4866IMG_4870IMG_4871IMG_4887IMG_4889IMG_4891IMG_4894IMG_4898IMG_4901IMG_4903

It was truly unbelievable. These pictures turned out well, but I really feel like they don’t do it justice. The beauty is breathtaking. I will return again someday and will be just as struck by the beauty of it as I was on Wednesday.

We’re on our way back to Kansas today. We’re excited to get back to Alf and our house, but we’re sad that vacation is over. This was one that we’ll cherish forever.

Happy Day!

Montezuma

Mar 20, 2015 /

On Wednesday we did some sightseeing.

Our three destinations were Montezuma Castle, Montezuma Well, and the Grand Canyon. I am splitting up the Montezuma’s from the Grand Canyon because of how many photos I want to share so come back tomorrow if you want to see our photos from the Grand Canyon.

We started at Montezuma Castle (about an hour from where we are staying). And for the record I pronounced it Montezoomee’s all day. I don’t know why, but I had fun doing it.

Boys in the front, girls in the back! We came to Arizona with my longtime friend Cady and her husband Eric. They’re pretty fun.

It was incredible. If you are ever in the area (Camp Verde/Scottsdale) and you have some time you should definitely check this out. It was $5 per person, but so worth it.

On our way in we talked with a park ranger who made the comment that since we’re here we should also go to Montezuma Well because “you definitely want to see that”. It was only four more miles further so we accepted her challenge. Her name was Ann. She deserves a big thank you.

I feel like we learned so much at this location. The park ranger here was also very informative. I didn’t realize that natural wells even existed, but over 1 million gallons of water a day flows continuously into the well and it’s more than 120 feet deep. It’s such a rare habitat that you can find creatures in the well that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Ann was right, this was a must see.

After the well we headed to the grand canyon – a two and a half hour drive through the mountains and the valleys and the plains and the forests. Arizona is a place of many landscapes.

Check back in tomorrow for the GRAND CANYON!!

Happy Day!
