hello

Oct 17, 2017 /

…

It’s me.

So quickly time passes on this little blog of mine without it being touched. I logged on today to realize that the site has been down because of a broken plugin. Days? Weeks? I’m unsure. I was still getting traffic recently so it couldn’t have been too long, but it tells the perfect story.

IMG_9059

The blog isn’t a priority right now.

IMG_9061

Keeping Dwayne alive is a priority though.

IMG_9070

And my husband and our home.

IMG_9072

My job and trying to take care of myself? They’re near the top of the list too.

IMG_9121

When I think about this space – the space I used to (still do) love and crave – I get really sad. It’s proof that I’m not super woman. I’m not a person that can do it all. And I have to tell myself (constantly) that no one can because that’s what people around me say. No one can do it all.

IMG_9122

So the blog is on pause. Until it’s not (like today) and then it pauses again.

IMG_9123

But we’re good over here. Life is crazy good.

Fall is here and Dwayne is a full on hilarious toddler. Mike is traveling a lot these next few weeks which is exciting (and sometimes hard). Work is crazy busy for me too. We’re in the middle of another software conversion – yes, I said ANOTHER. My brother and sister in law are about to have another baby which means I’m gonna be an aunt AGAIN!

So much good happening in our family and the family that surrounds us.

Miss you blog, but I’d rather miss you than miss all the good happening right here under my nose.

Happy Day!

Our Labor Day Weekend

Sep 5, 2017 /

…

I hope everyone is walking away from the three day weekend feeling refreshed and ready for this next season. FALL!

IMG_8864IMG_8868

Our weekend was very refreshing. I had the curtain debacle on Saturday and Mike worked the front desk at a tennis facility in town (one of his side gigs) Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon I deep cleaned the inside of my car! I was planning on just vacuuming the floor mats and throwing away the trash but I ended up wiping all the surfaces down and swiffering the dust out. I LOVE a clean car so I’m glad I spent the time to really get it clean.

It was a nice day at home (and at Target a few times thanks to the curtains) and it was a great way to kick off the weekend.

On Sunday, Mike went to church to teach Sunday school and Dwayne and I stayed home to make sure he had a good morning nap. In the afternoon we had lunch with Mike’s family. It’s always fun getting together with them. Dwayne’s cousin is only 8 months older than him and they’re getting into the stage of actually playing with each other. Pierce calls Dwayne “Deedee” so that is now what we all call Dwayne. It’s very sweet.

In the evening we went to my parents’ new house and had a “pool party” around their unfinished new pool. It was pretty brief because it’s still a full on construction site and once Dwayne stuck his hand in a can of lacquer we knew we couldn’t stay much longer. Ha! We followed it up with barbecue at my parents’ current house which is always yummy yummy. All the pics in this post are from the new house on Sunday.

I haven’t talked much about my parents moving because it’s not my story to tell, but my childhood home of 25+ years will be dearly missed and I can already feel myself getting nostalgic as the move gets closer. Their new house is so sweet and beautiful. It will be perfect for them (and us) as the family grows and changes so I’m also SUPER excited about this change.

Dwayne already feels comfortable there. Last week he spent two days over there overseeing the concrete pour. He’s in toddler heaven watching all the men work.

IMG_9014IMG_9020

Monday was spent at home, intentionally. It’s not often that we get a full day of Mike without work. He played tennis in the morning and had friends over in the evening. I did little house projects, cleaned, and prepped food for the week all day which was great. I love starting the week prepared.

Happy Tuesday – the start of a short week!

The Curtain Mistake I Made

Sep 2, 2017 /

…

Let me tell you a little story about curtains.

IMG_3776

“Happy Fall ya’ll” from September of 2014. This photo was the only “good” photo I could find of the curtains I am referring to below. Super simple. Spoiler: I already miss them.

On Friday night, a wild Friday night I will say, I opened the back door for Alfred to go out and caught a glimpse at the back side of our curtains. They were SO DIRTY! I think most of the dirt came from Alf on the door side, but on the other panel? It was Dwayne! He touches the curtain while he eats so it was crusted with old dried food. I try to open the curtain every time he’s in his chair to avoid this, but no one is perfect.

Gross.

I don’t have a before photo but please be grateful for that.

Since Mike was at home I used his height to help me pull the curtains off and I threw them in the wash.

I should note that I’ve done this before! When we got the curtains they came very smelly, think chemical smelly. I washed them, dried them (probably on low heat), and hung them up. They were also very creased when they arrived so the washing and drying really helped get them ready for hanging.

You probably see where this is going, but after I washed them I threw them in the dryer. I started the dryer on the normal setting without thinking about how 3 years ago I dried them on low heat.

They are ruined.

The back liner melted and unfortunately melted into itself.

IMG_4957IMG_4958

I remember these being more expensive than they are now and I am very sad about it. I considered ordering the exact same curtain on amazon last night but changed my mind last minute when I saw that Target had very similar ones and was having a sale on home decor (15% off with LABORDAY). I used the handy “order pickup” at check out and picked them up this afternoon. I think they came out to $11.99 per panel. They are very similar to the ruined ones and very simple.

I brought them home, hung them up, and was confused. They weren’t the same, but they were.

I did some more digging and my original ones were 52″ wide! The new ones were only 42″ wide so with them both hung up I was 20″ short on fabric. It still covered the doors but it looked flat and not full.

Bummer.

I decided to live with it.

An updated photo from 2017 with new, a little darker, more creased, and smaller curtains.

And then I changed my mind.

I found THESE 52″ wide very similar curtains, again, at Target and rashly decided to order them for pick up. They came out to almost $18 a piece so I spent $12 more for wider curtains. Worth it. I think.

Soo many face palms in this process… I had already thrown away the packaging for the old ones and remember thinking, “I should leave these out incase something isn’t right with them, but they will just be sitting on top of the trash so it should be fine.” (Insert lots of LOLs here)

Mike cleaned out the fridge and threw away leftovers after I decided to live with it.

I changed my mind and then found myself cleaning old food off cardboard with soap and water so I could repackage up the wrong curtains to take them back.

A few other hiccups happened during the return/buying new process, but 25 minutes later I was leaving Target and heading home with these new beauties.

IMG_8821IMG_8826IMG_4963IMG_4964

Another updated photo from 2017 (a few hours later) of the new, very similar curtains.

All this to say, thanks Target for making my life easier, harder, and some other feelings in between today. Also, if you’re hoping to buy new curtains because you ruined your old ones, make sure you check the width of the old curtain before you buy the most common width. It’ll save you a lot of time. And a trip to Target.

OR just don’t ruin your curtains by putting them in the dryer at medium heat.

Here’s to not letting Dwayne and Alfred dirty up these new ones like they did the old.

Happy Day!

Shop the curtains I referenced in this post below.
