His First Christmas

Our Christmas, in (mostly blurry) photos
I will really miss that gummy, drooly smile when his teeth decide to pop through.
Happy Day!

I am two weeks late in posting this.. but on January 2nd Dwayne turned 8 months old!
I look at him and see my little baby boy but also a glimmer of the big boy he’s growing into.
This month was fairly eventful for our little guy. He had his first Christmas, his first trip to Arizona, and his first real cold accompanied by a bad cough that lasted for about 10 days.
I love that little pointer finger in the left photo. He is so gentle when he discovers something new and will just put out his little finger to feel it. If we try to hand him something new he won’t just grab it, he has to feel it first with that little finger.
I’ve cut dairy out of my diet completely again and his tummy issues have disappeared. We also introduced one bottle of formula to alleviate the pumping stress and anxiety I was having while at work. I was warned by the pediatrician that the dairy free formula is nasty and that he might not take it very well so I was nervous about the transition…
He drank the bottle like it was no different and has been eating it like a champ ever since. Of course, but what a relief! It has been so nice for me to work uninterrupted in the mornings and to not stress about my output day after day. It was not good for this momma.
He makes all sorts of sounds now and our favorite so far is “Dada”. He hasn’t said “mama” yet, but he is getting the mmmm sound so I know he’s close.
He is joy!

Our first holiday season as a family of three is off to a really sweet start. On Thanksgiving morning we woke up and had some family snuggles (and photos) before we headed to my parents for the day.
Are they the sweetest? Or are they the sweetest?
His first Thanksgiving, his first piano playing experience, and his first time falling asleep in his pack n’ play in the workout room at my parents.
On the eve of December, I put Dwayne in his first pair of Santa pajamas and got out the camera. The photo session didn’t go quite as I planned, but we made it work.
I posted that last photo on Facebook and got a really cool response from our friend Leah. She said “This is the perfect Christmas card. <3! I love what it symbolizes. 1. I pray when we look at our kids we want them to see us looking AT them not past them as we parent and 2. as we look at Christmas I pray Christ becomes the forefront and the ‘holiday’ dimly glows around the light of Him”.
It’s not at all what I wanted to capture. I wanted him under the tree. Smiling at me. But he wouldn’t sit still and anytime I’d back away he’d crawl straight to the camera. This photo isn’t perfect. The focus is off and I’ve cut off essentially all of my subject, but it’s everything I needed to capture. And I needed that reminder from Leah. Christmas isn’t all about the Santa jams and the light of the Christmas tree.
Christ is the forefront and the holiday dimly glows around the light of Him.
This boy is so loved.
Happy Day!
