Weekend Fun

Sep 17, 2012 /

Over the weekend my little sister Maddie came to Sterling for a college visit. My family was able to come with her and I got to spend the day with my littlest sister, Katie. We played Life and a new game called You’ve Gotta Be Kiddin’. They were both so much fun. I cannot believe that she is 8 years old now. She has a fireball attitude and is smarter than any other 8 year old I know – and I’m not biased at all.

Needless to say, we had a great Friday with my family. On this particular day, the littlest was all about the backwards hat and making the peace signs. (heart melting)

On Saturday Mike and I went to hutch with his momma to meet his brother. We went to lunch and saw a movie – The Words. I personally thought it was really confusing – but overall it was a decent movie. We had so much fun and laughed so much together. Mike bought an extra extra large bowl of popcorn and we could only eat half. There was so much popcorn. I definitely married into a wonderful family. Mike and I are incredibly blessed by our families.

We got to see my family again on Sunday after Mike spoke at a church in Larned, KS. My mom treated Mike and I to The Lion King! We got to sit with the littlest sister’s girl scout troop. It was phenomenal. I have seen it once before in New York City but it was Mike’s first professional production. We had a great time – we also had a bunny ear war during intermission.

It was a wonderful weekend filled with wonderful people.
We’re already looking forward to the next weekend.

See you soon!

Thank Yous and Adjustments

Sep 4, 2012 /

Thank you notes are completed! I honestly did not think this day would come – especially not this soon. But I am so relieved to have all the gifts checked off the list. I have done them in shifts and luckily got a huge chunk completed before we left for Northern Pines. The last big portion was completed over the last few weeks – 35 of them were finished in the last two evenings – PHEW!

Also, note our first utility bill payment. Man growing up sure comes at you all at once, huh?

Anyways, back to thank you notes. Even though every gift was accounted for (hopefully) it is so hard for us to comprehend the amount of love that came our way over the last few months. We had so much support as we made this decision to become one and I am sure we took a lot of it  for granted. So THANK YOU to all those people that supported and continue to support us through this exciting transition. Thank you for your prayers and your sweet words of encouragement. Thank you for all the marriage advice and financial advice. Thank you for the example you have set before us and your honesty in the difficulty that lies ahead. Thank you for your patience and forgiveness as we learn how to be married. Thank you sweet friends and family. We feel your love and prayers and cannot express our gratefulness enough. We still have lots to learn, but it is comforting knowing that we have an army of supporters behind us – it’s also comforting waking up next to my sweet and loving husband everyday. The Lord has been so good to us. He has knit our relationship together and he will continue to bless our lives as we look to Him.

Life Update: Work is HARD. The work itself is actually pretty easy… but 8 hours a day is hard. I never thought I would miss being a student but right now – I miss it. The major transitions I’ve gone through over the last few months have also brought on quite a bit of anxiety and insecurities. Each day I am more and more grateful for my husband who is home to greet me with open arms every single day without fail (even when I am a puddle of tears). No one said growing up was easy – I’m just glad I get to do it with my best friend and companion.

We’re adjusting. Mike and I are on different schedules. He is a student so he has lots of meetings at night and more free time during the day to work on school and his internship. Since I work 8 to 5 we don’t see each other as much as we’d like. But we’re adjusting. And we really look forward to weekends.

At the end of the day, life is good. We have so much to be thankful for – and adjustment is just what we need.

See you soon!

The Honeymooners

Aug 21, 2012 /

After camp Mike and I honeymooned in Brainerd, MN. His aunt has a cabin on Round Lake up there and we were able to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet for a whole week. After we departed from Green Lake, drove through Wisconsin, made it through the twin cities, hit a few rain storms, and waited through plenty of construction – we made it! It took about 8 hours with stops and adjusting to the “long route” that my phone decided to take us on. It was an adventure but definitely worth it.

We spent the first couple days sleeping a lot. After two weeks of camp with 40+ little kiddos we were exhausted. Mike wasn’t too exhausted to make me breakfast in bed though. He’s so thoughtful. After we recovered a little bit we spent some time in town exploring some shops and eating lots of great meals. We also spent lots of time on the water, watching the olympics, fishing, making smores, and taking naps.

Some highlights: Grizzlies, riding bikes around walmart, pedicures, geeking out in a board game store, almost buying a puppy, playing bocce ball, laying in the hammock, mini golf, buffalo wild wings 3 nights in a row, completing the Bourne series, jetskiing to Ernies for lunch, 3+ hours wandering around Gander Mountain, and watching the sunset every evening on the water. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time and we are already planning honeymoons 2, 3, 4, & 5. Mike has decided that honeymoons shouldn’t just happen after a wedding but all the time – I agree wholeheartedly.
