On Sunday afternoon, we had our friends and family over to celebrate Dwayne.

IMG_0555IMG_0556

I never thought I would be a big birthday party thrower and I’m still unsure that it’s someone I want to be, but it’s such a good excuse to get everyone we love under the same roof. So, thank you to all the friends and family that came to celebrate our boy and for continuing to love on us and him and as he grows. We feel so blessed by all the people we have in our circles.

IMG_0558IMG_0559

We did essentially the same party this year as we did last year except instead of woodland creatures we did barnyard theme. My sister, Maddie, helped a lot with the planning and prepping and I think we pulled off a very cute little gathering.

IMG_0570IMG_0572

Maddie also bought Dwayne the cutest little “TWO” shirt. He’s a toddler so all the good pictures turned out super blurry but here are a few that show off the shirts cuteness.

IMG_0573IMG_0574IMG_0578IMG_0579IMG_0580IMG_0590IMG_0602

Dwayne was spoiled this weekend. He even got the enjoy a cupcake with an everlasting candle! He loves fire, candles, and blowing out candles so it was perfect. He was able to blow it out probably 8 times.

IMG_0523IMG_0533IMG_0539IMG_3014

Dwayne’s first birthday party last May compared to now.

IMG_0548

Happy birthday, sweet boy. We love you!

Dwayne Henry: Two https://thejaderstons.com/dwayne-henry-two/ https://thejaderstons.com/dwayne-henry-two/#respond Mon, 07 May 2018 13:00:16 +0000 http://thejaderstons.com/?p=5206

Dwayne is two!

IMG_0104

It feels like yesterday that he was born, but it also feels like he’s been with us forever. Being a parent is weird and time is a thief, but two is so fun.

IMG_0112

He is getting more fun with age and also more stubborn. We had a doctors appointment over Christmas (out of desperation because he refused to sleep without kicking, screaming, and body slamming himself into the sides of his crib) and I was hoping he had an ear infection or something to explain this very unusual and frustrating behavior. I think the doctors words were “He is perfectly healthy, very very smart and very very strong willed.” I think she also mixed in the word manipulative. It was a relief to hear that he was healthy but a bummer to now have to learn how to parent an 18 month old that was very skilled at manipulating his parents.

IMG_0122

Stubborn or not, he is so so loved.

IMG_0137

His favorite toys are not toys. At his birthday party he carried around a paper plate for awhile. He would not put it down and he absolutely did not want food on it.

IMG_0145

He started swim lessons a few weeks ago and L O V E S the water. My parents have a pool so I think swimming is going to be a big part of his near future.

IMG_0170

He climbs anything and everything.

IMG_0171

He’s very introverted and after spending lots of time with people or other kids he recluses to his room to read books by himself.

IMG_0172

His favorite little friend is his cousin Pierce and when they see each other (which is pretty often) they embrace like long lost friends.

IMG_0143

He hates having the sun in his eyes and that’s pretty much the only time he cries in the car. He’ll throw his arms over his face and scream as loud as possible until we turn.

IMG_0123

He prefers the outdoors over anywhere else – loves the park and loves throwing rocks in the pond down the street from our house. Also in the pic above he’s saying “Cheeeeese”

IMG_0173

When he says goodnight to dad he says “Wuv you Daddy” unprompted.

IMG_0182

He still eats mostly dairy free because I’m afraid to introduce it and make his tummy hurt.

IMG_0191

Him and Alfred still don’t get along and when Alfie comes out of Mike and I’s room, Dwayne resorts to army crawling around the house hoping that Alf doesn’t see him. Dwayne still tries to earn Alf’s affection though by asking to give him treats all day long.

IMG_0222

Like I said before, two is fun and funny and hard at times, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

IMG_0235

Happy second year of life, Dwayne Henry.

Happy Day!

IMG_8658

On the mornings that I don’t have to get moving for work, Dwayne and I take it slow. He wakes up and plays in his crib for awhile – until he gets fussy – then we get up and make eggs. Dwayne is a big breakfast kid so as soon as he’s out of his crib he wants to be in his highchair.

IMG_8671IMG_8677

He’s usually awake for about 2 hours. If we have no where we need to be he stays in his jammies and just plays around the house.

IMG_8687IMG_8700IMG_8703

Part of the reason I did the social media fast was because I felt like I was missing out on time with Dwayne because of my phone. Working part time already takes away my time with him so when I’m home I want to be present.

IMG_8712IMG_8722

I see the biggest change in our slow mornings at home.

IMG_8725IMG_8729

Dwayne will play on his own but he is showing me things and talking to me and looking at me for affirmation when he does something new.

IMG_8737IMG_8742

I missed some of that before, checking my feeds.

IMG_8742IMG_8744

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but keeping this child alive and well has been the sweetest privilege and my greatest accomplishment to date. I want to be my best self for my family. It’s a journey and I’m not there yet and most days it feels like I have a really long way to go, but a small change gets me that much closer.

There is a lot happening in my heart right now. I don’t know exactly what it is yet, but I’m excited and anxious to learn what God has in store for me.

Happy Day!

Over the Weekend {in photos} https://thejaderstons.com/over-the-weekend-in-photos/ https://thejaderstons.com/over-the-weekend-in-photos/#respond Mon, 15 May 2017 16:40:35 +0000 http://thejaderstons.com/?p=5027

Feeling all sorts of proud this morning. My little sister graduated from KU this weekend! And even though it was a long and exhausting day, it was so sweet to be able to see her walk across the stage. In all honesty, that’s all we saw. Dwayne was missing his morning nap and only wanted to be crawling around so we popped our heads in for her name and then we went on a long walk. It was a beautiful day so I wasn’t complaining.

We missed big sister Jenn and Mike, of course, but it was fun having most of the family together for the day. #rockchalkjayhawk

On Sunday, we had a very relaxed day. Since we had such a long day on Saturday with only one very small (38 minute) nap for Dwayne in the car, D and I skipped church so he could sleep the day away. He took two 2.5 hour naps so I would say he pretty much succeeded. In the evening I asked Mike to play tennis with me.

Mike played tennis in college. I “played tennis” in maybe 5 lessons as a small child. There is quite the gap in our skill levels but he’s teaching me! Last night was the most consistent I’d played in a while so it was pretty fun. After we played we let Dwayne out of the stroller and Mike captured these beauties.

Dwayne is walking quite a bit now – but only when he has something in his hands. His favorite things to walk with are the swiffer broom, large pillows, and toys. If he’s empty handed he still prefers the bear crawl. He is such a joy.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Happy (mother’s) Day!

Dwayne Henry: First Birthday Party https://thejaderstons.com/first-birthday-party-boy-decor/ https://thejaderstons.com/first-birthday-party-boy-decor/#respond Mon, 01 May 2017 19:15:35 +0000 http://thejaderstons.com/?p=5020

Our boy turns ONE tomorrow!

IMG_3012

I had a very emotional week leading up to his party as we finished the process of weaning and it hit me like a ton of bricks that my little baby is no longer a little baby. Glad to have all those feels out of the way.. now onto the partay.

First Birthday One per Sheet

Yesterday afternoon we had our family and friends come over to celebrate our little man. It was such a sweet day – and I loved having our home filled with our closest people. At one point I looked around my house, bursting at the seams, and got teary-eyed taking in all the love and joy surrounding Dwayne Henry. He is loved – more and more everyday.

IMG_2984IMG_2998

The party was pretty simple. I was determined to not let it stress me out since my goal for this year was to say no to chaos. So I started gathering decor and supplies over 4 weeks time. I did a practice run of the cupcakes for Mike’s youth group leaders the week before to make sure they weren’t gross.

IMG_2981IMG_2983IMG_2982

I picked up a bouquet of flowers and a fruit and veggie tray from Dillons the morning of and spent the Saturday before making the cake, cupcakes, and rice krispies.

IMG_2993_2IMG_2992_2IMG_2990

Most of the decor came from the dollar tree or target. I bought the sparkly paper at Hobby Lobby and cut out the words on my mom’s cricut. The cupcake liners were from amazon, so were the lollipop sticks and mini clothespins for the pictures on the shutters.

I made the cake stands from cake plates and a candle votive, both from the dollar tree. So yes, that’s two cake plates for $4. WINNING.

The wooden cheese tray that has Dwayne’s cake on it was a gift from my parents. They bought it in Napa.

IMG_2989IMG_2986

The paper goods, invitations, cupcake toppers, and thank you cards came from Etsy shop NoFussPrint. I ordered the Woodland Animal Themed cards and I LOVED them. It was super simple and I could customize them on my own and printed them at Office Depot.

IMG_2994_2

Dwayne didn’t get a great nap before the party so he was pretty tired before the guests even arrived. Thank goodness this sweet boy knows how to rally because his mood turned right around.

IMG_3018IMG_3019IMG_3020IMG_3022
His first reaction to the cake and singing was a little overwhelmed – but once I cut him his own piece we couldn’t get him to stop!

IMG_3024IMG_3025IMG_3028IMG_3029IMG_3037IMG_3039IMG_3041

It was such a fun day and I would say that my first birthday party was a success. I am glad we only have to host it once a year though! We are so blessed by this boy, thanks for following along!

Happy Day!
